Adam on the Radio!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Public radio reporter Austin Jenkins caught up with us at the June 5th Bellevue Farmer’s Market. Luckily our spokesman was there to answer questions.

listen here.

And for interested consumers out there: restaurants are required to keep shellstock tags on the premises for 90 days, so if you want to make sure that the oyster you’re eating is what it’s supposed to be you could ask to see the shellstock tag. Our oysters are harvested out of Hood Canal Area 5, and the Hama Hama Company will be listed on the tag.

OPEN FARM Saturday May 15th

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Hi folks! This might be our last open farm so please come on down. We’ll be taking people out on the beach from 11 until 2 pm this Saturday. The weather should be beautiful and the tide is going way way out (it’s a -3 at 12:30), so there’ll be lots of creepy crawlies exposed. Bring a picnic lunch and some sunscreen and hang out in our new waterfront picnic area.

Other things to bring: rubber boots, a cooler if you want to take home oysters and clams, and a garden dirt rake or 3-pronged garden spade for digging clams.

At 2:15 we’ll do a brief cooking demonstration, where you’ll learn how to shuck and barbecue your oysters and prepare clams.

Questions? Please call 888-877-5844 or email orders @ hamahamastore.com

Hope to see you this weekend!

Area Dog Discovers Taste for Oysters

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

There are two types of oyster eater: those who are born loving oysters, and those who grow into the taste. For one local dog, the oyster epiphany came last Saturday at an informal campfire gathering in Lilliwaup. Since puppyhood Area Dog has lived on Hood Canal, but this was the first time he’d expressed interest in oysters.

(Caveat: only in Lilliwaup, where the hens lay soft-boiled eggs and the lemonade springs, would it be o.k. to feed world-class shellfish to a dog.)

First Post!

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Welcome to the Hama Hama Oyster Company Blog! We’re a small oyster and clam farm located on Hood Canal, on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, near the tiny town of Lilliwaup. Frequently we get inquiries from people who are curious to come work at or tour our oyster farm. Yes! Please visit. We won’t put you to work, but we will give you a tour of our facilities. But if you can’t make it all the way out to Lilliwaup, then hopefully this blog will serve to bring Lilliwaup to you. As soon as we get our Wordpress blog working correctly (!) we’re going to post photos of our shellfish farm, the work it involves, and the creatures and critters that live on it. We’ll also share our favorite shellfish and seafood recipes and keep you updated about sales at our ecommerce site, hamahamastore.com. Thanks for visiting, and come back soon!
