Hood Canal Spot Prawns - 1 Lb Fresh Tails
Description
The elusive Hood Canal Spot Prawn! These delicious spot prawns are heavily regulated to prevent overharvest, and are only available a few days a year. We buy them fresh from local Skokomish Nation Tribal members, take the heads off, and package them in pint containers by the 1/2 pound.
Delivery Date:
This is the first year in several years that we've been able to offer fresh *not frozen* prawns through the online store, and delivery is ONLY available to ship Wednesday April 16th. These prawns will be caught on Tuesday April 15th, and you should plan on cooking them as soon as you receive them. Once cooked, they'll last for a few days in your fridge as peel & eat shrimp.
If you add clams or oysters to your order you will be given the option to choose a different delivery date - however - these shrimp ONLY ship for shipping on 4/16, so that's when we'll ship your box. If there's something you want to receive on different date, order it separately or wait for the prawns to be available as frozen add-ons.
How to Cook:
These shrimp literally cook in minutes. (If you overcook them, they can get mushy and soft.) When they're firm and the shells are pink and the meat is white (and no longer translucent), they're done!
Special Considerations:
These are fresh, and untreated. Supermarket shrimp are usually treated with a preservative so that black spots don't develop when thawed. These shrimp will receive no such treatment, and might ooze a little black liquid into their containers during transit. This is normal shrimp stuff - just give them a quick rinse and cook like normal.
Remember that consuming raw or undercooked shellfish increases the risk of foodborne illness.
