2025 Oyster Classes

Regular price $ 115.00

Come to the farm for a unique and fun oyster experience. These classes include a shucking lesson followed by lots of practice as you work your way through a comparative oyster tasting of bivalves near and far. Along the way, we'll explore how oyster culture varies from region to region, delve into wine pairings, experiment with condiments and preparation techniques, and tell a few jokes. You'll leave with the know-how to be a confident oyster consumer, however you choose to eat them... at home, in restaurants, or fresh off the beach.

Class starts at 12 and ends between 2 and 3 pm. It includes ~2 dozen oysters (depending on how many you're hungry for!) of at least 4-6 different types (including some of our roasted oysters) plus snacks, handouts to take home, wine and beer pairings, and a brief walking tour of our oyster farm.

The fine print:

  • This is an indoor class with 12 - 15 students and 1 to 2 instructors.
  • Cold or flu symptoms? Stomach bug? Don't come to oyster school if you're sick!
  • Raw foods are inherently more dangerous than cooked foods, so this class is not recommended if you're pregnant or immuno-compromised.
  • Classes are restricted to folks 21 and up.
  • Class is in an upstairs room and unfortunately we don't have an elevator.
  • Class includes snacks and roasted oysters, but doesn't include a saloon reservation.
  • Snow, mud, or flood? If the roads are impassable we'll cancel & refund or reschedule.
  • We may take photos during class for marketing or promotional materials, if you have concerns about this please let us know.
  • Finally: We'll send class updates via our marketing email program so will subscribe you to our list as part of this class. Unsubscribing is easy if you no longer wish to receive email once class is over.

So much fun, yum & learning

Loved this class! The instructor was awesome... energetic, fun, full of knowledge about everything oyster, and responsive to attendees! After shucking oysters for years...I finally leaned how to do it correctly. Oh my goodness, it is so easy now. Even folks who had never shucked an oyster were successful in 10 minutes! And we got to touch, shuck, taste & compare multiple types of oysters! And we got to do it all while sipping wine! To top it off we got a behind the scenes tour of Hama Hama's oyster operation. I can't recommend this class enough!!

Wonderful Experience and Class!

I took the class last weekend. It was awesome! Learned the quick and easy way to shuck and ate a massive number of excellent oysters. We learned about farming techniques, how oysters grow in the wild, preparation techniques. We tasted many varieties, mostly local but compared to some east coast varieties too. Learned the history of this family-run business and got a farm tour. Well worth the time and money. I highly recommend the class!

Fantastic Class

As a professional wine educator, I do class presentations quite often. Being entertaining, energetic and highly
Informative is difficult to achieve. The 1/27/24 class at Hama Hama was outstanding! I learned so much and also had a great time! If all my education had been as much fun and that delicious, I’d still be in school.

Oyster Class

I just recently participated in one of the oyster classes and I highly recommend it. The person who gave the class was great, the experience was so enjoyable, and I came away with lots of new knowledge about oysters. We got to taste multiple types and they were incredible fresh and delicious. I highly recommend taking this class. There was a nice spread of light food to snack on, shucking gloves and oyster knife, a great little notebook to record the oyster tasting in. And, of course, the oysters, raw and cooked.

The classes are so very fun for us to teach. We're glad you had a good time, and we thank you for this feedback, and for coming!
