Hama Hama is looking for a Barge Deckhand. As part of the Oyster Farm's water operations crew, the deckhand works under the day-to-day direction of the Water Operations Lead. These operations are scheduled around and contingent on working the high tide, where activities consist of the harvest and transport of seed and market ready product to and from our farms and processing houses. This position works with the high tide which means early mornings (~ 3am) in the summer and a more consistent day time schedule in the winter. This individual will be asked to clean gear, totes, and the barge, keep gear maintained and organized, as well as assist with other fulfillment and farm operations as needed. The ideal individual will be self-driven, enjoy working outdoors, and be willing to jump in wherever help is needed.

Responsibilities include:
- Assist with high tide barging/boating harvest and planting activities at the various farm sites.
- Ensure that all harvested product and landed gear, cages and lines are put in the appropriate spots and staged for next tide's activities.
- Follow all water safety protocols, including proper use and care of PPE (PFDs, hard hats, etc.)
- Help to maintain vessels and boats under the direction of the Water Operations Manager (greasing, cleaning etc).
- Assist with seeding, crop maintenance and other farm work.
- Clean totes, facilities, and gear as requested.
- Help out in the cold room as needed, especially during holiday shipping seasons.
Skills we’re looking for:
- Organized, reliable, and able to work the tide schedule.
- Someone who embraces a "Safety First Culture" with strong attention to detail, who can follow procedures and maintain standards.
- Friendly and professional with good communication skills.
- Able to pass a forklift certification and other online trainings.
- Comfort on a boat and working with heavy equipment including cranes.
- Willing to pitch in and help where needed around the oyster farm - cleaning, filling orders, organizing gear and moving shellfish around.
Skills we're interested in:
- Previous experience in the shellfish or boating industries
- Spanish language skills
This is a full-time, in-person position, 30 to 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday. The exact hours are determined by the tide and tend to be more predictable in the winter. Compensation range is $22.50 to $25 per hour plus production bonus and cell phone reimbursement.
