2025 Job Post: Seasonal Farm Store Position

Come join our team! Our Farm Store is hiring a midweek seasonal position. 

About Hama Hama:

Family owned and operated for six generations, we’re a shellfish and timber farm located on the eastern slopes of the Olympic Peninsula. Our farm store is located a stone's-throw from our shellfish beds and features our own oysters and clams alongside locally sourced artisan food. 

Seasonal farm store staff help ensure that we are serving fresh, delicious, and visually appealing shellfish, while providing a friendly, professional, and well-informed customer service experience. Ideal candidates will have excellent customer service and organizational skills, be excellent team workers, and demonstrate a passion and curiosity for oysters. Seasonal hires work up to 6 months during the summer busy season, until September or early October. An end date will be established when you get hired.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Make sales, restock, and clean the retail store in a prompt and professional manner
  • Ensure goods on display are properly labeled, attractively displayed and rotated for freshness
  • Engage with customers and ensure they have a positive experience in the store
  • Be able to explain our products and make recommendations, up selling when appropriate.
  • Convey a sense of pride in product and pride in place
  • Work together with team members from other departments (such as Wholesale and Saloon) to achieve company goals
  • Maintain sanitary and inviting work environment, including seafood display cases and crab tank
  • Do laundry and general facility upkeep (sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces)
  • Leave facilities and product in great condition for the next teammate who needs them
  • Answer general customer inquiries about Hama Hama (including the oyster farm and Saloon) AND field complaints diplomatically in the Retail Manager’s absence. Relay any customer complaints to Retail Manager as needed
  • Ensure the store and kitchen are a safe place for staff and customers. Communicate any safety concerns to the supervisor as needed.
  • Be familiar and compliant with Washington State and Federal Law regarding: food safety, shellfish sales, sales tax collection, liquor sales.

Requirements:

  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain efficiency and a positive, friendly attitude
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Interest in seafood, cooking and the environment where oysters and clams grow
  • Responsible cash handling and basic arithmetic skills
  • Reliable transportation and dependability
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Comfortable working with point-of-sale systems and able to receive work schedule via phone app
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift 40 - 50 pounds easily and cheerfully, and carry out the physical demands of a retail position.
  • Washington State Food Handler’s Card (can be obtained after hire)
  • Washington State Mandatory Alcohol Server Training certificate (can be obtained after hire)

Total Rewards:

This is a part-time, seasonal position with an on-site work schedule. Expected hours of work are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 9 to 6:30 pm with a half hour lunch, totaling approximately 27 hours per week. There are opportunities for occasional additional shifts during busy weekends or when other crew members need coverage. Compensation range starts at $17-$19 per hour plus tips, which historically have been $8 to $12 additional per hour during the summer season.
