2025 Job Posting: Seasonal Oyster Shucker

Position Summary: 

While their primary responsibility is shucking clusters, this position also helps out in the plant production crew when scheduled. They’re responsible for sanitation at their station, being punctual and efficient with their time, and following all safety and health guidelines. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Oyster Opening

  • Clean station before and after processing
  • Shuck clusters and top offs as scheduled 
  • Operate forklift to load totes/hopper
  • Light record keeping of # pans of shucked product

Plant Processing & Fulfillment Operations

  • Tagging, bagging, boxing product for shipment or delivery
  • Washing and sorting clams
  • Working in the “Bag Pit”- washing and cleaning oyster bags
  • Packing pre-shucked oysters
  • Assemble boxes and insulation and help move packaging between storage locations via forklift.
  • Back Up Driver - PFRs, Additional Saloon Pick Ups

Plant and Property Maintenance

  • Communicate regularly to ensure all routine plant & equipment maintenance is scheduled and completed on time
  • May include equipment maintenance duties

Safety and Health

  • Follow proper handwashing and equipment sanitation procedures
  • Clean facilities as scheduled - floors, break rooms, hallways etc
  • Ensure all operations are HACCP compliant and document as needed
  • Communicate safety issues to Shellfish Manager
  • Follow all PPE requirements 

Quality Control

  • From plant to customer, ensure that we are taking every step possible to sell the freshest and highest quality product we can produce.
  • Ensure adequate cleanliness of product
  • Ensure adequate grading and sorting of product
  • Ensure product is healthy and fresh
  • Ensure the product yields are in line with expectations

Supervision received: Meet for weekly check-in w/ Wholesale Manager, and communicate often regarding plants operations / needs. Daily work may be self-driven or supervised by fulfillment lead or sales/plant manager

Requirements:

Interpersonal and Communication

  • Ability to work as a team and independently
  • Friendly and collaborative with coworkers and management
  • Spanish language skills a plus 

Organizational Skills

  • Maintain tidy and sanitized workstation
  • Manage equipment and PPE 
  • Able to rotate product (first in / first out) and keep track of inventory and batches

Industry Experience

  • Understanding of shellfish lifecycle
  • Understanding of oyster health and sizing 
  • Able to shuck safely and quickly
  • Able to pass a forklift certification class and exam

Physical Skills

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Bend, lift fifty pounds, operate heavy machinery

Total Rewards:

This is a Seasonal/Full-Time position with an on-site work schedule. Expected hours of work are 30-40 hours per week Monday - Friday. The role will not exceed 6 months with an estimated end date on or about October 3, 2025. Compensation is $20/Hour + production Incentive of $5 per pan shucked.
